Portrait of Allison Wigen

I am a sociologist whose interdisciplinary research bridges cultural studies, labor studies, environmental studies, and American Studies. My research is rooted in qualitative methods, especially ethnography, comparative-historical methods, and narrative methods. In my dissertation, Art at Work: Labor and Cultural Production in the Wake of Change, I investigate how working people use cultural production to narrate, interpret, and give meaning to labor amid social and ecological upheaval. As an educator with experience teaching undergraduate sociology and graduate arts education courses, I practice critical, problem-posing, and project-based pedagogies in the classroom.
